So Much Info!

I retired from the Detroit Public Schools as a youth librarian before my library was computerized. When I was hired by The West Bloomfield Twp. Public Library in 2001, I had to learn on my feet and was amazed at how quickly information could be accessed on the computer and how incredible it was to no longer have to use a card catalog. I had been so proud of myself about how much I had learned and am now able to do on the computer - until I started this class! I am learning so very much and absolutely love having a blog - but I feel as though my brain is going to burst. I find the video instructions so helpful on one hand, but so full of information and terms that I had never heard before that I realize on the other hand, how far behind I am in computerland. The Firefox video made me feel as though I was in front of a firing squad - the info was coming so fast and furiously! Does anyone ever leave their computer anymore? Will we have to have no computer weeks in the future as we had no television weeks in the past? Just a thought.

  1. I think it's really key to step away from the computer for sure! Even during my work day. Not only to give the body a rest and a change in posture, but just to be involved in some different things and formats. But I do also think they're pretty central to many of our daily lives these days so libraries are smart to make things available via computer too.

  2. Totally Kelley. I need to give my brain (and eyes) a break if I'm sitting too long. Judie, I hope you don't feel too overwhelmed. The reality is that there is SO MUCH stuff out there, we just have to sift through it, pick and choose what works for us and what we want to share with our public. Just like we do with books and other forms of media!
